Des has over 21 years’ experience in Fire Safety Engineering design and consultancy in Ireland and the UK, having worked on many prestigious projects including prominent Airports, Shopping Centres, Sports Arena, Industrial Complexes, Office and Residential Developments.
Des became Fire Safety Manager for Dublin Airport in 2006. In this role Des was responsible for all matters relating to fire safety and fire safety management at Dublin Airport. In particular, Des was responsible for the technical review of the Fire Safety Design for Terminal 2 on behalf of the DAA (Dublin Airport Authority) prior to submission to the Local Authority and the design, construction and sign off of the new Pier D facility. In 2007 Des started his own successful practice that amalgamated with MJP in 2009. Des was a founding Partner and Director of MJP from 2009 to 2017. In 2017 Des left to start his own practice Des Fortune & Associates Ltd. |
In addition, Des is an Approved Inspector for An Bord Pleanála and a visiting lecturer with Trinity College Dublin, The University of Dublin specialising in Fire Safety Engineering.
Des has lectured to Building Control Officers, Fire Prevention Officers, Architects, Engineers and Property Developers on Fire Safety Engineering for a wide range of building types and construction, and on Fire Safety Management courses to give fire marshals, managers and general staff an understanding of the fundamentals of Fire Safety to ensure their compliance with their obligations under the Fire legislation.
